Our History

An affiliate of MENTOR/The National Mentoring Partnership, the Memphis Mentoring Partnership (MMP) brings together a broad range of community groups and leaders to support responsible mentoring initiatives in Memphis/Shelby County and to promote mentoring as a strategy to prevent youth violence, substance abuse, school drop-outs, and other negative behaviors limiting children’s prospects for success.

MMP was formed in June 2001 as an outcome of the local National Campaign Against Youth Violence, coordinated by the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission and the Memphis Regional Chamber. The Memphis Mentoring Partnership was established and operated by Volunteer Memphis from 2002 to 2008. Since 2008, MMP has been part of the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation, making it a significant component of the TEAM UP youth mentoring initiative.  This has established a “one-stop shop” for youth mentoring in Memphis and has resulted in strengthening the services and support provided to MMP member groups.

The Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation is committed to serving Memphis youth through education and mentoring.
